In Living Memory
A grieving grandfather must resist the allure of a theater that replays memories of lost loved ones.
Role:
Co-Writer / Director / Visual Effects / Sound Design
How It Started
My friend and fellow filmmaker Jon Vaude wanted me to give notes on a script he wrote called Ma Vie, a story for a potential anthology web series he was developing. I was moved by the story of grief and life afterwards and asked if I could direct the film for my Directing class at the University of Georgia. He accepted and allowed me to tweak the script to fulfill certain parameters of the class. I was honored he let me produce it and I hope at the very least it provides a great proof of concept for his larger idea.
Producing the Film
In Living Memory was a great opportunity to develop my “producer” skills. Juggling casting from a wide pool of talented actors, securing locations, and creating pitch decks, and hiring crew on top of all the director’s creative duties made me greatly appreciate producers in general. As my projects get larger and more sophisticated, having them as their own role will become essential.
