Journal 13: Creative Divergence

November 19, 2015

Absolutely nothing has happened between now and my last journal entry. For two weeks I’ve been busy with tons of school work and even a five day field trip to Orlando for a Convergence field trip. The sophomore project hasn’t been on my mind for 14 days.

And that’s what scares me.

I knew that I would be busy, and I’ve tried to plan around it, but the degree of schedule locking was unheard of until now. I’ve lost some key momentum I’ve had going, because during this time, the draft has not been worked on, or even commented on for that matter. I showed Liquid Lightning (the more simplified version of Vocelyne) and Jack has already poo- pooed it. (This is another reason why I don’t like showing works in progress, people [especially Jack] write it off too quickly.) He didn’t like my idea of Monty and Maddox being partners in science and said we should keep with the original. Unless he comes up with another idea, I’m not quite sure how plausible the original may be. I feel like we have done nothing to dig ourselves out of the rut we’ve been experiencing and valuable time has passed us by. We still don’t have a completed, cohesive version and...

THE FINAL DRAFT IS DUE IN A WEEK!

Another problem is Jack’s interests are shifting. Over the Orlando trip, we created a show called the TenCast Podcast where we “talk about entertainment news.” It was more content to put onto our Act 9 YouTube channel. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m pro- podcast and I think what we have is a great idea. I’m just afraid it may eventually detract from the larger (sophomore) project at hand. We plan on making a biweekly (recorded every other Tuesdays and uploaded that Thursday!) show and lately our meetings have been in regards to that instead of Vocelyne. We have also been having a few creative differences about the content for the show (I think his drive for entertainment news is too focused and doesn’t give the hosts enough room to display their own personalities on the show), and about the direction of the sophomore project. I guess that where we differ, my philosophy is experimentation and variety. I try not to be tied down to any idea. Jack’s tends to be more “pulling from other sources and keeping a strict idea. The thing is, my philosophy is not always done because we don’t give them enough time or planning to come into fruition and it always turns out to looking like I’m wrong. I wish I was able to give better examples of my ideas working.

At least Jack is getting practice editing when we do the show.

I’m going to be using the Thanksgiving Break to get a lot of work done. I need an amazing draft in seven days. The thing is, I will also be working on two other major things during that time. One of them is an essay for Literature about the literary merit of Water For Elephants. The other is an animated motion graphics project (Writing Center PSA) for Convergence that is due December 2nd and there is lots of work to be done. I assume the Convergence project is going to be taking up most of my time, so I may need Jack’s help to bail me out on the screenplay. I may need to do some major schedule re-figuring.

I have a feeling things are going to get mentally, emotionally, and creatively stressful.
